Painted Wooden Ring Earrings

Another fun Earring Tutorial

I will be adding more earring tutorials to my blog and YouTube Channel and today I am sharing how I make painted wooden hoop earrings using the wooden rings I sell in my Etsy Shop.

Materials for Completion:

Wooden Rings I have a set of rings that work perfectly for this project 🙂

Acrylic Paint (I use Vallejo Paints but any craft paint will do)

Earring Hooks – I buy mine at Michaels

Jump Rings (assorted sizes) – I also buy these in sets at Michaels

Needle Nose Pliers

Scissors

When I paint my rings I like to tape them onto a cork, I just wrap a piece of washi tape so that the sticky side is up and then stick the ring onto the cork. It isn’t the fanciest looking tool, but it works great for this type of project.

I paint my rings with a solid color, if I am mixing my colors I will paint both at the same time. I use a wet pallet so that my paint doesn’t dry out while I am using it. These rings do not take too much paint so the paint can dry pretty quickly. I mostly use Vallejo Paints because my husband is really into miniatures and this paint is so vibrant in color and is such a smooth paint, it gives such a great finish to the earrings. This type of paint is not a game changer when it comes to painting wooden rings, acrylic craft paint works great too. When I use craft paint I usually thin my paint just a little with a matte medium.

Now prepare your earring hooks

I am using a fish hook with ball and open loop so I will need 2 jump rings so that the earrings dangle in the correct direction when worn. When opening the jump rings be sure to twist, rather than pull, the jump ring open. This way you will not distort the shape of the ring.

I add my jump rings to the wooden ring, then attach my Earring Hook.

Now repeat for the other earring.

I also started a few earrings using some of the gold paint included in the paint set that I have, I added a little gold at the bottom at a slight angle.

To get the angle on the earrings I used some Washi Tape to mask off the part where I wanted the gold to be. I used a darning needle to hold the two rings in place with the backsides together, I picked an angle at random and masked off both sides before painting the rings purple.

After the purple dried I painted the bottom part gold.

I can’t wait to finish these, I just need to get some gold earring hoops 🙂

I have wooden  Earring Sets available in my Etsy Shop that are perfect for this project. The sets come with different sized wooden rings that can be used on Earrings, Necklaces and even stitch markers. If you haven’t all ready seen my Crochet Earring Tutorial that uses these rings, I have a video over on YouTube with step by step instructions on how I make them.

I really hope you have enjoyed this short tutorial, I really like making earrings, I just don’t really wear them that often. I have been sending my earrings to my sisters 🙂 If you have a minute, I would appreciate it if you would visit my Etsy Shop, sales on tags and other printables help me out a lot so that I can keep adding free patterns and tutorials like these on my blog and videos on my YouTube Channel. I am hoping if I can continue to make sales in my Etsy Shop to help me with my finances I can continue to add freebies to my blog that are AD FREE, I mean isn’t it nice to look through a blog and not have a million pop up ads in the way?

Thank you so much 🙂
