Fun and Easy DIY Wooden House Decoration
Another craft for Canyon, he really likes houses and Christmas so I couldn’t pass up the chance to make him some cute little Christmas House Decorations
Adam had the kids out making these little wooden houses in the garage, he cut a few scrap pieces of wood for the boys to decorate, but they never ended up decorating them.
I was at Michaels the other night and found some little mini wreaths, I had a Popsicle craft in mind for them but when I got them home and saw the little houses Adam made for the kids I decided to use them to decorate the wooden houses. I bought extra so I still have enough for my Popsicle craft too 🙂
If your husband didn’t make some houses for your little ones and need some little houses for this craft, you can make your own using scrap pieces of wood.
Once you have found the wood, find the middle of the board where you want the peak of the roof to be, mark it and then move on over to the miter saw.
Adjust the saw so that it is ready to cut at a 45 degree angle and line your marked board up to where the blade is going to cut. Then flip the board over and repeat the same angle cut. You should end up with a cute little house shape.
I cut 3 just because I ended up doing them in different sizes. The one on the far right is the one my husband cut for Canyon.
If you don’t have scrap wood or a saw you can buy small little houses like this at Michaels they call them Birdhouse Wood Plaques they are 3″ x 5″ and as far as I can tell only come in that size.
I made one using wood that is similar to what you would find at Michaels.
Once you have the wooden houses and the mini wreaths (which you could probably make wreaths with pipe cleaners and some ribbon) you are ready to make your little holiday houses.
Let’s Decorate!
I decided to modify my wreaths slightly for this project. On one I removed the gold berries and added a big red bow that I tied using some silk ribbon.
On the second wreath I removed the green ribbon and all of the berries and added a Merry Christmas bow that I tied using some holiday ribbon I had.
Both bows were glued on using hot glue. Then I used hot glue to attach the wreaths to the houses.
And that was it, next I put the houses up around the house and Canyon immediately saw the one in the bathroom and was so excited about his Christmas house.
While working on this post I was thinking these would make good ornaments, and you could even add a holiday word on the bottom. If you have a Cricut Machine you could easily cut out a 2.5″ word out of vinyl to apply to the house.
Overall this was a pretty quick craft, even factoring in time to cut the houses out they took less than 20 minutes to make. And you could do this with kids too!
If you make a few of these houses to add to your holiday decorations I would love to see what you made, please share with me on social media using #savlabot
As always, thanks for reading my blog and stay crafty!
