US 11 circular needle with a 16” cable and dpn needles
Super Bulky Yarn – 2 skeins 1 of each color
Yarn used: Lion Brand – Wool Ease Thick & Quick in Russet and Fisherman
Tapestry or Darning Needle

8 stitches x 9 rows = 3” x 3”

dpn = double pointed needles
k = knit
k2tog = knit two stitches together
m1 = make one (by yarning over)
p = purl p2tog = purl two stitches together
rep = repeat
s1, k2, psso = slip 1, knit 2, pass slip stitch over both knit stitches
s1, k1, psso = slip 1, knit 1, pass slip stitch over knit stitch
sts = stitches

Extra Small: Infant Beanie
Measurement – 6.5” from top to brim, Circumference – 14” un-stretched
Using the circular needles with Color A (Fisherman), Cast on 40 sts.
I use the long tail cast on, though any cast on method should work. Leave about 6 inches of yarn for weaving in. Join ends being careful not to twist stitches.
Round 1-5 Color A: *k1, p1, rep from * to end.
Cut Color A, leaving a 6 inch yarn tail. The rest of the pattern will be knit using Color B (Russet).
Round 6 Color B: knit to end.
Round 7: *p2, sl1, k2, psso, rep from *to end. See images from Large Hat on how to s1, k2, psso.
Round 8: *p2, k1, m1, k1, rep from *to end. Make one by yarning over.
Round 9: *p2, k3, rep from *to end.
Round 10: rep round 9.
Round 11-14: rep rounds 7-10.
End on round 14.
Start Decrease
Round 15: *p2, sl1, k2, psso, rep from *to end.
Round 16: *p2tog, k1,m1,k1, p2, k1, m1, k1, rep from *to end.
Round 17: *p1, k3, p2, k3, rep from *to end.
Round 18: *p1, k3, p2tog, k3, rep from *to end.
Round 19: *p1, sl1, k2, psso, rep from *to end.
Round 20: *p1, k2, rep from *to end.
Switch to dpn’s when you can no longer knit comfortably
Round 21: *p1, sl1, k1, psso, rep from *to end.
Round 22: *p1, k1, rep from *to end. Remove Markers if you have any
Cut yarn, leaving a 6 inch tail.
Closing the Beanie: Visuals for closing are on pg. 3
Using a crochet hook transfer stitches from dpn to crochet hook. Grab working yarn with crochet hook
Pull yarn through all stitches on crochet hook and repeat for all stitches. Cinch closed.
Weave in all loose yarn, add a pom-pom. See post here on how to make a pom-pom.
