Directions:

Cast On 42 sts for medium (48 sts for large).

Place marker, connect ends, being sure not to twist yarn. Be sure to leave at least a 6” yarn tail. I use the long tail cast on method, though any stretchy cast on method will work.

Start Pattern:

Round 1 – 7: k1, p1 to end.

Round 8: knit to end.

Round 9: purl to end.

Round 10: k1, p1 to end.

Round 11: k1, p1 to end.

Repeat Rounds 8-11 until work measures between Medium 6.5″, Large 8″. Be sure to complete all 4 rounds before moving onto decrease, your last round before the decrease should be a repeat of round 11.

If you want a longer beanie, repeat rounds 8-11 an additional time, or as many times until you reach your desired length.

Start Decrease: Restart round count.

Round 1: *sl1k1psso, k5 (k6) place marker, repeat from * until beginning marker. (36 sts, 42 sts, left)

Round 2: p2tog, purl to next marker, rep from * for each section until end. (30 sts, 36 sts left)

Round 3: k1, p1 to end.

Round 4: k1, p1 to end.

Round 5: sl1k1psso, knit to next marker, rep from * for each section until end. (24 sts, 30 sts, left)

Round 6: *p2tog, purl to next marker, rep from * for each section until end. (18 sts, 24 sts, left)

Round 8: k1, p1 to end.

Cut yarn leaving a 6″-8″ yarn tail. Pull working yarn through all live stitches and cinch closed. Weave in all yarn tails.

This pattern is very easy to follow with only 4 rounds that repeat. I created the pattern using Lion Brand Hometown USA yarn, but it can be knit up using other super bulky yarns as well, you just need to make slight adjustments to the number of

I used Bernat Roving Yarn and buttercream Luxe Craft Alpaca Solid Yarn and both knit up really nicely. I just sized down my needle to a size 11 for both yarns and followed the pattern as is.
