Bulky Weight Yarn ( Yarn Weight – 5)

US 6mm Crochet Hook J10

Darning or Yarn Needle

Vegan Suede Tag (to attach keychain to key ring)

Size: approximately 1” x 4.5” length will vary depending on yarn used, and how long you leave the fringe tail.

Gauge: Not necessary for this pattern, though the size will change depending on what yarn you use. You can use any size 4 or 5 yarn for this project. If using a size 4 yarn you may want to size down your hook to a 5 or 5.5mm.

Please read through the terms before starting, there is a special stitch in this pattern, it is a variation of a Cluster-V Stitch.

ch = chain

sc = single crochet

slst = slip stitch

st(s) = stitch(es)  

Cluster-V Stitch: In the SAME space, Double crochet 3 stitches together, ch1, double crochet 4 stitches together all in the same space.

In this pattern the Ch2 at the beginning of each round counts as part of the cluster-v stitch. Because of this, you will do different number of stitches on each half of the cluster-v stitch.

LET'S GET STARTED

Chain 4 and join with a slst to form a ring. Ch2 and turn.

Row 1: Cluster-V stitch into center of the ring. Ch2 and turn.

Row 2: Cluster-V stitch into the ch1 space. Ch2 and turn.

Row 3: Modified Cluster-V Stitch into the ch1 space (Modified Cluster-V stitch = Double crochet 2 stitches together, ch1, double crochet 3 stitches together in the same space). Ch1 and turn.

Row 4: skip the ch1 space and slip stitch into the next st.

Pull yarn and bring down through ch1 space.

If you didn’t crochet right into the key ring you can attach the mermaid tail to the key ring using a leather tag and Chicago Screw or Rivet. I use Chicago Screws and small vegan suede tags to attach mine. The tiny vegan suede tags used in this post are available in my Etsy Shop. I also have vegan suede tags that you can use to attach the mermaid tail onto the key ring.
