Free Crochet Soap Saver Pouch Pattern
Extend the life of your favorite soap with a cotton soap saver pouch. This crochet pattern is made up using the Bobble Stitch, I have used this stitch in a few other patterns and really love how it looks with cotton yarn.
Materials for completion
Cotton Yarn – I used Knit Picks Dishie and Premier Yarn Home Cotton

Finished soap saver should measure approximately 4.25″ x 3.25″ when measured flat.

Creating the Bobble Stitch
The bobble stitch combines the technique of the cluster stitch and shell technique. Shells are usually made using double crochet stitches and are formed by working several stitches into the same stitch (or space). Clusters are formed by working several stitches into different stitches then joining the tops into one stitch. The bobble stitch combines these techniques by working double crochet stitches up to the yarn over into the same stitch, then joining the tops into a single top.
In this pattern you will be creating a bobble stitch by crocheting 4 double crochets up to the yarn over into a chain 1 space then combining them into one stitch at the top.
1. ch 2 when starting the first bobble. Do 4 partial double crochet’s into the ch2 space, once you have 4 partial dc’s on your hook grab your working yarn and pull it through all loops on hook.
2. Chain 1 to complete the bobble.

This pattern is worked in the round. The chains at the beginning of each round sometimes count as a stitch, this is stated in the round.
Make a foundation chain of 12
Round 1: sc into the 2nd ch from hook, 9sc, 2sc into the next ch. Continue to the unworked edge of the foundation chain. 2sc into the first ch, 9sc, 3sc into the last ch. Join round with a slst in the beginning of the chain 2 from the foundation chain. (26)
Round 2: ch1, sc into each st across, join round with a slst. (26)
Round 3: ch2, skip the next st, work 1 sc into the next st, * ch1, skip the next st, work 1 sc into the next st, rep from * to last 2 sts, ch1, skip the next st, join round with a slst. 13 ch1 spaces, the ch2 at the beginning counts as a sc and ch1 space.
Round 4: ch2, 1 bobble into the ch1 space (the space between each sc) until last space. In the last space do a partial bobble. join round with a slst into the space between the ch2 and the first bobble. (13 bobbles)
A partial bobble is everything up to the last yarn over in the bobble stitch (see video under special instructions) In this pattern the ch2 is part of the last bobble stitch, this is why you do a partial bobble and leave off the ch1 for the last bobble of the round.
Round 5: ch2, work 1 sc into the space between the bobble * ch1, work 1 sc into the space between the bobble, rep from * to the last bobble space, ch1, join round with a slst. 13 ch1 spaces, the ch2 at the beginning counts as a sc and ch1 space.
Rounds 6-9: Repeat rounds 4 & 5 until work reaches desired length (approximately 2 repeats)
Round 10: repeat round 4.
Round 11: ch1, sc across. Work your sc into the st on top of each bobble and the space between (26)
See alternate finish for loop string closer, for drawstring closure continue to round 12.
Round 12: ch2, skip the next st, work 1 sc into the next st, * ch1, skip the next st, work 1 sc into the next st, rep from * to last 2 sts, ch1, skip the next st, join round with a slst. 13 ch1 spaces, the ch2 at the beginning counts as a sc and ch1 space.
Round 13: ch2, 2hdc into each ch 1 space across, join round with a slst. (26)
Round 14: ch1, blsc across, join round with a slst.
Cut yarn and weave in all loose yarn tails.
Adding the drawstring: You can use ribbon yarn or create a foundation chain using the same color yarn or a different color. Make a foundation chain of 46, tie off, weave in the foundation chain or ribbon yarn between stitches from round 12 (the row below the half double crochets)
Alternate Loop Top Closure
After working round 11 from the pattern above…
Round 12: ch1, 6sc, ch2, skip 1 st, 19sc, join round with a slst. (26)
Round 13: ch1, 19sc, when you get to the ch2 space do 1sc, slst into the 20th st, ch14, slst into the same st, 6sc, join round with a slst. (26)
Round 14: ch1, sc into each st. Join in the round with a slst.
Cut yarn and weave in all loose yarn tails.
Pair with a bar of soap and keep for yourself or give as a gift…or package and sell in your Etsy Shop or at a Makers Market.

What are the dimensions supposed to be? Mine seems much bigger than a bar of soap.
Mine measure approximately 4.25″ x 3.25″ when measured flat. The size can change depending on the yarn and hook size used.
