Reusable Cotton Face Scrubbies

This is an easy to follow pattern for reusable crochet face scrubbies.

Materials for Completion:

5mm Crochet Hook US H-8 – or appropriate hook for the yarn you are using.

Cotton or Cotton Blend Yarn Medium Weight

Darning Needle

Sizes: Approximately 2.5″ x 2.5″ Regular, 3.25″x3.25″ XL

Gauge: Not terribly important for this pattern but use gauge on yarn wrapper if needed.

Selected Abbreviations:

ch = chain                 dc = double crochet  MAR  = magic adjustable ring

hdc2tog puff st abbreviated as (puff) in this pattern = half double crochet 2 together puff stitch   

st(s) = stitch(es)        sc = single crochet         sl st = slip stitch       () = numbers in parenthesis are the number of stitches at the end of the round.

Special Technique: Half Double Crochet 2 Together Puff Stitch

Hdc2tog puff st (puff) =  Start with a MAR, yarn over hook, insert into center of MAR and pull through you should have 3 loops on your hook. Yarn over hook, insert into center of MAR and pull through, you will have 5 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull yarn through all 5 loops (images 3 & 4).


Chain 2, yarn over


Insert hook into the magic adjustable ring and pull through.


You will end with 3 loops on your hook.

Be sure to draw yarn up as tall as the ch2, that way your puff stitch will have a consistent size.


Yarn over and insert into hoop again, hook yarn and pull through, you will have 5 loops on your hook.

Hook yarn and pull through all 5 loops to create puff stitch. Finished Puff Stitch pictured above.


Directions: All stitches will be crocheted in the space between each puff stitch.

Start with MAR, ch2

Round 1: 9 puff sts into MAR, pull MAR tail to cinch closed. Join in the beginning with a sl st. (9)

Round 2: ch2, 2 puff sts into each space (the space between each puff st). Join with sl st (18)

Round 3: ch2, *1 puff st into next space, 2 puff sts into the next space, repeat from * to end. Join with sl st (27)

Finishing: Sl st around the edge of round, into each of the stitches. Join in the beginning with a sl st.

Cut yarn and weave in.


If you would like to make and Extra Large Face Scrubby add an additional round before moving onto the finishing round

Round 4: ch2, *1 puff st into the next 8 space, 2 puff sts into the next space, repeat from * to end. Join with sl st (30)
