Lets Crochet Something!
This is a quick little pattern I came up with to dress up my succulents planted in 4 oz mason jars.
I have a few versions of these Mason Jar Cozy’s that I have posted in my Ravelry Shop, you can find an alternative pattern made with Lion’s Brand Cotton Ease yarn here: Free Mason Jar Cozy on Ravelry The free pattern on Ravelry is pretty much the same as this one, it just uses a different type of yarn, so the sizing is a bit off.
Below is a pattern I created using Lily’s Sugar ‘n Cream yarn in Overcast.
Materials For Completion: There is a link at the end of the post for a PDF download of the pattern.
US H8 5mm Crochet Hook.
Worsted weight yarn less than 1 skein, this is a perfect pattern for stash busting, a great way to use up small leftover bits of yarn.
Yarn used in tutorial images is lions Brand Cotton Ease.
Terms: Ch = Chain hdc = half double crochet sc = single crochet sl st = slip stitch st = stich
st= stiches rep = repeat
Chain as many as you need to reach 6 inches. Count the number of chains used, I used 23 for a 6 inch ring.
Join the sts together to form a ring.
Round 1: ch 2, then single crochet into each st until the end of the round.
Round 2: ch 2, then hdc into each sc, insert the hook under the top loop of the sc st, as pictured below.
Rounds 3 and 4: Repeat Round 2.
Round 5: Ch1, sc into each st.
Round 5: sl st into each sc. See image below, insert hook into st space, not the top loop as in previous rounds.
When you reach the end of the round, pull loop slightly and cut yarn so you have enough to weave in the end.
Using a darning needle, thread yarn through center of first sl st.
Weave in the yarn. I like to thread it down to the bottom, and tie it off with the yarn tail from the start of the project.
The finished cozy should measure, 2 inches by 3.5 inches or so.
Once you have the cozy finished, slip it onto an empty mason jar.
Plant a succulent in the jar and you are ready to go!
This is a really fun and quick pattern! You can make these to add little succulents around your house, they make great decorations 🙂
Succulents also make very nice party favors, they are perfect for bridal or baby showers, add a little thank you tag or a button to the cozy and you are all set with a perfect party favor!
